It is with profound sadness that I mourn the loss of my mentor and
partner Bob Kates. In 1987, Bob took a chance on me as a raw, unskilled
and inexperienced lawyer. With his patience, red pen, fanatical
attention to detail and a willingness to accept nothing but the finest
work product I was capable of producing, Bob transformed me into a
serviceable lawyer. My education continued for the next 26 years. I was
blessed to have such an expert craftsman in the arts of negotiating,
drafting and litigating guide my way. Bob’s well-earned reputation as a
skilled, ethical lawyer garnered him a level of respect enjoyed by few.
Bob set a standard of honor, excellence and civility I will aspire to as
long as I practice.
